"Io credo che la Canzone d'Amore debba essere una canzone triste. E' il rumore del dolore stesso, è il desiderio di essere trasportati dall'oscurità fino alla luce, di essere toccati dalla mano di Colui che non è di questo mondo. La Canzone d'Amore è la luce di Dio, giù nel profondo, che si fa largo tra le nostre ferite. Nell'isterica tecnocrazia della musica moderna, il dolore è relegato in fondo alla classe, dove sta seduto, pisciandosi addosso dalla paura. La Canzone d'Amore deve avere un'eco di pena. Lo scrittore che si rifiuta di esplorare le regioni oscure del cuore non sarà in grado di scrivere della meraviglia, della magia e della gioia dell'amore, perché così come la bontà non può essere creduta da chi non abbia respirato la medesima aria del diavolo, allo stesso modo nella struttura della Canzone d'Amore, nella sua melodia, nel suo testo, uno deve intuire una conoscenza della capacità di soffrire. La Canzone d'Amore deve essere generata nel regno dell'irrazionale, dell'assurdo, del disperato, del malinconico, dell'ossessivo e del pazzo, perché la Canzone d'Amore è il clamore dell'amore stesso, e l'amore è, ovviamente, una forma di follia. Ma alla fin fine la Canzone d'Amore esiste per riempire, col linguaggio, il silenzio tra noi stessi e Dio, per abbattere la distanza tra il temporale e il divino. Per parte mia, io sono un acchiappa-anime per conto di Dio. Eccomi che arrivo con la mia rete per farfalle di parole. Eccomi che acchiappo crisalidi. Eccomi che soffio vita nei corpi e li lascio svolazzare verso le stelle e la cura di Dio."
