L'Autore

E.W. Peters was a British police officer in the Shanghai Municipal Council from 1929 until his dismissal following charges of attempted murder. He and his co-defendant both found not guilty. Robert Bickers is an expert in the field of modern Chinese history and British colonialism. His previous publications include Empire Made Me: An Englishman Adrift in Shanghai, a biography about a British police officer in the Shanghai Municipal Police, and The Scramble for China: Strangers in the Middle Kingdom, 1832-1914. He is currently a professor of history at the University of Bristol.
